Algeria, 1993. Eight monks have lived for many years in peace amongst their Muslim neighbours, until a group of Croat workers are murdered by Islamists in a town nearby. Shock waves are sent through the town upon the receipt of this news, but despite the evident threat against the monks, they decide to remain in loyalty to the town. One of the most striking scenes is the enactment between the Islamist fighter and the monk; instead of barricading the monastery, the head monk leads the armed group outside to talk and averts kidnap and engorgement by reciting a quote from the Quran. Of Gods and Men is a sobering film and an exploration of the universal power of true faith, knowledge, love and humanity.
